Great Lakes West Comprehensive Assistance Center StaffLearning Point Associates StaffLinda Miller Miller, who joined Learning Point Associates in 1998, has provided Reading First technical assistance to state education agencies (SEAs) in Connecticut, Idaho, Louisiana, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, and Wyoming as well as to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She developed, authored, and served as managing editor of the professional development newsletter Notes & Reflections and designed, developed, and implemented professional development opportunities and resources for school and community partnerships. Prior to her work at Learning Point Associates, Miller was the project coordinator for several federally funded grants providing out-of-school time and supplemental academic programs to students with limited English proficiency and to students from low-income families. Miller also has provided technical assistance to the SEA in Washington and has taught migrant students in Grades K–1. Ted Stilwill Stilwill recently joined Learning Point Associates as the Program Lead for the Great Lakes West Comprehensive Center. Stilwill, one of the nation's most esteemed educational leaders, holds a master's degree in teaching from Drake University and brings an unfaltering commitment to education in addition to an impressive repertoire of skills, experience, and field connections. As Iowa's director of education for nearly 10 years, Stilwill oversaw the development, passage, and implementation of landmark teacher quality and student achievement legislation that improved the salary and professional development support systems for Iowa teachers while maintaining strong accountability for increased student learning. Prior to becoming the state's chief state school officer, Stilwill served as the administrator of the Iowa Department of Education's elementary and secondary education division for seven years. His career also includes 18 years in various classroom and administrative positions at the school and district levels. A past president and former board member of several organizationsincluding the Council of Chief State School Officers and the North Central Regional Educational Laboratory® (NCREL®)Stilwill brings extensive leadership ability and a national reputation for excellence to the position. He also is skilled in project management, staff supervision, problem solving, general management, public speaking, and consensus building. State Managers and Content Center LiaisonsMonique M. Chism, Ph.D. Since Dr. Chism joined Learning Point Associates in 2005 as a senior program associate, she has had the opportunity to work in a number of capacities to provide clients with systems of targeted support on issues related to closing the achievement gaps and the importance of implementing data-driven decision making. Recently, she served as a school-based coach for two schools in a large urban district in order to assist the instructional leaders with systematic and comprehensive changes guided by federal No Child Left Behind directives. She provided high-quality professional development and site-based technical assistance, sharing with key stakeholders recommendations and strategies for improvement that were based on evidence from scientific research and rigorous practice. In addition to serving as the Great Lakes West State Manager for Illinois, Dr. Chism also serves as the team lead for the achievement gap initiatives at Learning Point Associates. She joined the organization with eight years of teaching experience and more than 10 years of experience as an educational consultant. Alfred Hovey Hovey joined Learning Point Associates in 2001 and most recently worked with the North Central Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Consortium as a senior program associate sharing his expertise in science, mathematics, technology, curriculum, and professional development. Hovey's responsibilities included extensive site work focused on implementing school improvement programs. He has worked on professional development tools, the use of technology to deliver technical assistance, has helped develop a facilitator's guide for the Powerful Practices CD-ROM, and has written an online science Pathways to School Improvement Critical Issue. Hovey has extensive experience in teaching and chairing science education and informal (4-H) science activities in Wisconsin, where he taught middle school science for 30 years and college-level science courses for teachers. Hovey also worked as Wisconsin Science Education Consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for five years. His work included implementation and assessment of science programs throughout the state as well as serving as liaison to many organizations statewide, regionally, and nationally. He was given the Ron Gibbs award, the highest given in Wisconsin for science education. Great Lakes West Comprehensive Assistance Center Program StaffElizabeth Kershaw Kershaw joined Learning Point Associates in 2004 and most recently provided support for the North Central Eisenhower Mathematics and Science Consortium. Kershaw, who is proficient with numerous computer applications, provides support in the preparation of reports, proposals, and presentations as well as manages the contracts, purchasing, and meeting planning for Great Lakes West.
